Manchester United's plans for a new 'Wembley of the North' have taken another step forward after getting the local council's backing.

WHAT HAPPENED?
According to the Daily Mail, officials at Trafford Council unanimously backed plans for a new Old Trafford on Monday. The report adds it is believed the project will add £7.3 billion ($9bn) to the economy and provide 90,000 jobs and 15,000 homes.

This comes less than a day after United's plans to build this new state-of-the-art ground, dubbed the 'Wembley of the North', looked to have hit a snag due to a row between American rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lancashire Cricket Club. But in addition to Chancellor Rachel Reeves 'championing' the Old Trafford project, this council development is a real breakthrough.
